The crab crab (Cancer pagurus) is a species of crab that is found in the North Atlantic, from Norway to Morocco, including the North Sea, the English Channel and the Bay of Biscay. It is one of the most popular crab species in Portuguese cuisine and is highly valued for its delicate flavors and soft texture.
The crab is a decapod crustacean, that is, it has ten legs and a hard, pointed shell that can measure up to 25 centimeters wide. The legs are covered in spines, which help protect the animal from predators, and are used to capture prey and move along the seabed.
The crab meat is juicy and tasty, with a sweet flavor that is very popular in Portugal. It is often served cooked, stuffed with a mixture of breadcrumbs, onion, parsley and crab meat, and is one of the most popular delicacies in Portuguese cuisine. The crab can also be used in other seafood recipes, such as salads, soups and risottos.
